Sales TV and effective newsletters

Lately I have been thinking about starting a TV show. Perhaps a 30 minute Web TV show that airs weekly and focuses on sales training. Maybe my forum users will speak up, but I ask you, what time and what format should I use?

Think about places like Mudulus.com and Ustream.com.

Thnk about how I should selll the show?

"The sales evangelist: Sharing the wisdom of the sales gods"

Help me out, will ya. I am really curios as to how I can help you learn how to sell better.

Also, news on the slinger front.

The message slinger blog on effective newsletters is live. We are serving up posts on how to deliver better messages. With 20+ clients and the beta going smoothly, we are ready to turn the engine on and jump to the next level. Be sure to get on the bus before we come out of beta and raise the rates.

Free money from the startup sales trainer

So I started a forum and people flocked to the LinkedIn group in droves. They respond to the newsletter and sign up for my blog. What they have not done is start using the forum. So, as a sales motivator, I will employ my favorite behavior driving toll...the CASH SPIFF!

So here goes:

$50 a month for the most active and relevant forum user.
$500 for user of the year.
$500 for voted fan favorite.

Starting in August and monthly until Decemnber

Monthly payouts by the tenth of the next month!
Annual payouts in January!

Join the forum here:

If you want to make some extra gas money, or break into January with a bit of cash to make up for the Xmas spending, then register on the forum and start posting good content. We can all grow together as leaders and learners.

Think you are making champions - how often are your mentoring?

You bring in great sales trainers, then create an amazing sales process, and offer them great sales resources. You have topgrading in place for hiring, and you have the support of marketing and technical support. EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE! Yet month after month, you are fighting on the 29-31st to go over quota. Why?

Simple - how much one on one mentoring are you doing? Are you still in touch with what it takes to sell? How to sell your product is not someone else's job, it is yours. Beyond that, making your sales reps better citizens of the business world is a guaranteed way to make them the best players in your industry.

Take them to lunch and hear about the things that make them happy and sad. Give them counsel in what can help them grow into who they want to become. Listen to their story and watch as it continues to unfold within the organization.

If you do these simple things, not only will they begin to realize the highest levels of their potential, they will stick around and give you the best for years.

Sales training cannot prepare you for one of those days

Every now and then you have to crack a book about something beyond how to better perform as a sales person. Today my reality had nothing to do with how effective a communicator or how thought out my sales plan/process/strategy happens to be. Today I had to lean on other icons for pearls of wisdom.

7:00 am, my computer crashes and takes 25 minutes to come back up. Circle of concern vs. circle of influence, Covey shares that I can only control what I can control. Go make some coffee and think about my meeting later in the day.

9:00 am, my closing meeting for my newest client goes south as the tech lead gets food poisoning and the prospect has not faxed in the order. Rescheduled for 10 am, then postponed until tomorrow. Re-aligned my focus on other tasks and helped my clients with their Message Slinger tempaltes.

9:30 am, three clients call in with needs and my computer is giving me fits. Spend 1.5 hours of a completely booked day on unexpected tasks. Re-prioritize and only keep the must get done tasks on my agenda.

1:00 pm, my 3pm discovery call with a vendor gets postponed to 4:00 pm. At 4pm I was supposed to spend some time with my wife. Interdependence and flexibility - Dropped what I was doing and helped her straighten the kitchen then went to the store.

You do not get these tools in sales trainings. Take some leadership courses, learn from the wise teachers of the past, and find a way to build skills that take you beyond the sales call.
